On 24 January 2023 we were delighted to welcome the 2022 winner of Best Actress in a Leading Role at the EE BAFTA Film Awards, Joanna Scanlan, for an evening at The Bvlgari Hotel London. Interviewed by Briony Hanson, Director of Film at the British Council, Joanna took our Patrons on a journey from her early career in British TV comedies The Thick of It and Getting On, to her BAFTA win for Aleem Khan’s feature-length directorial debut, After Love, and how this has had an impact on her career since its release.

Joanna gave BAFTA Patrons a remarkable insight into the projects, as both an actor and writer, that have shaped her career and her methods and motivations for tackling each unique role. Joanna also joined us for a champagne reception where Patrons and the BAFTA Scholars and bursary recipients at the event could ask more questions.
